Before you start, please make sure you are eligible to adopt.

Adoption Process Requirements:

1. The adopter must be at least 18 years old.

2. The adopter must have identification showing present address.

3. Consent of all adults living in your household.

4. Owner/landlord consent if renting. We will be reaching out to them, so please arrange this in advance. (Many apartments or landlords have breed or size restrictions even if they do allow dogs.)

5. A veterinarian reference check for any current pets. All pets must be up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. We cannot, and will not, process any applications if your pets are not up to date. If you fill out the application and your animals are not current we cannot process your application UNTIL all pets are brought up to date, which will likely delay the process.

6. If the match is agreeable by both the applicant and POPB, a home visit will be conducted.

7. A signed adoption contract and payment of the adoption fee will be required before the dog is released. You can then take your new family member home!

HOME VISIT AND OUT OF TOWN ADOPTIONS

HOME VISIT AND OUT OF TOWN ADOPTIONS We do a home visit as well as reference and landlord check. For most Gainesville area adopters, we do the home visit after the application is approved. We can then arrange a second visit to drop off the dog for the trial week, or the adopter can pick up the dog from the foster or at an adoption event. For out of town adopters, we will arrange for a trusted volunteer to do the home visit. We will not adopt “pit bull” type dogs to residents of Miami-Dade County.

ADOPTION FEE AND TRIAL PERIOD

ADOPTION FEE AND TRIAL PERIOD We want every adoption to be a good match. To that end, all adopters have a trial week, starting the day they welcome the dog to their home. At the end of the week, we will ask you to confirm whether or not you wish to finalize your adoption. If you would like more time, please ask. If you choose not to finalize after the trial week, you must return the dog and we will return your fee. Once you finalize the adoption, no fees will be reimbursed, even if you return the dog later. If you cannot keep your dog at any time, you must return him/her to POPB. After finalizing the adoption, you are entitled to a free initial examination at one of our participating veterinary clinics. We will also provide you with all the dog’s veterinary records and transfer the dog’s microchip information to you.

ADOPTION AGREEMENT

ADOPTION AGREEMENT Please read this carefully! Please initial each item to indicate your agreement with the following statements and your promise to fulfill these committments. This is a legally binding contract with Plety of Pit Bulls (POPB).
