Plenty of Pit Bulls is 100% volunteer based. This means we do not rely on any paid employees to run any aspect of the rescue. Instead, we rely on dedicated volunteers for all of our needs. A volunteer assesses potential dogs in county shelters that we might be able to help. Another volunteer coordinates all of our foster homes for the dogs we are able to pull. A different volunteer coordinates veterinary care for all our dogs and many, many other volunteers coordinate a host of activities – fundraising, events, adoptions, social media, you name it! Finally, we have a volunteer board of directors that help steer our efforts and ensure we are achieving our mission on a daily basis.
What is the point of all this? Very simply, we need you! Volunteers are the backbone of our rescue, and we have near endless opportunities to get involved with our rescue. Without you, there is no Plenty of Pit Bulls. If you are ready to give back to a dog in need, and your community, please look through the information on this page and consider filling out our Volunteer Application.
Adoption Events
POPB holds weekly adoption events to showcase our dogs to the public and provide them with much needed exposure to potential adopters. These events are an excellent opportunity for volunteering. As an adoption event volunteer you will interact with the public and help answer their questions, interact with our dogs to keep them calm and happy, help provide care to the dogs (water, bathroom breaks, etc.), and serve as the public face of our rescue. This is a great way to get to know some of our current volunteers and dogs while learning the basics of our organization.
Adoption Ambassador
Perhaps you can’t commit to regularly volunteering at one of our events (we get it, everyone has a unique schedule), but you still want to help out a dog in need. Well, we have you covered! Becoming an adoption ambassador may be the right choice for you if:
– You have a hectic schedule, and can only volunteer intermittently;
– If you prefer to volunteer for a short period of time;
– If you specifically want to interact with a dog one-on-one;
– If you prefer to volunteer outside of one of our regular events.
As an adoption ambassador you might be paired with a specific dog(s) and work with their foster to help transport them to adoption events, veterinary appointments, training classes, or other special events. Additionally, many times our fosters just need a little help getting their dog out and about for some fun as they have busy schedules too, so our ambassadors are encouraged to work with each dog’s foster to figure out what their dog needs that day or week.
Fostering
Perhaps you are ready for a deep dive into Plenty of Pit Bulls? Maybe you want to go all in and directly save a dog’s life? If you said yes to either of those questions, you might want to consider fostering a dog. We do not have a physical shelter for any of the dogs we rescue, they all live in a foster home, and all our fosters are volunteers! Check out our dedicated foster page to learn what it means to be a foster.
Other Ways to Volunteer
As a moderately large, complex organization we have volunteer opportunities to fit almost any need. Some more non-traditional ways to volunteer include:
– Photography
– Organizing fundraisers
– Assisting with social media campaigns
– Helping advertise and promote POPB to the public
– Seeking out educational opportunities for the rescue
Essentially, if you have an idea that would benefit our rescue, our dogs, or our volunteers we are open to it! Only by growing our volunteer base can we increase the good we are doing in the Gainesville-area. As new volunteers come on board, we discover new ideas we may not have thought of, and that is how we can advance our rescue for years to come!
